Hunger & Fear: The Everyday Gaza

Since the beginning of May, the ongoing humanitarian crisis on the Gaza Strip has escalated to a full chaos. Since then, efforts made by the United Nations and allies to distribute humanitarian aid for Palestinians have been severely impacted by reported attacks at food distribution centers and aid points by the Israeli Defence Forces ( IDF ) .

Thousands of Palestinians live in fear today because of the recent escalations in the conflict between the HAMAS militant group and the state of Israel, who have killed over 1,000 Palestinians since the beginning of May. Many international groups and organizations have denounced these atrocities to the International Court of Justice and U.N. Organs such as the Human Rights Council, however the sanctions and resolutions have not been applied because of the interference of delegations such as the United States.

UNICEF estimates that every 20 seconds, a child is killed in Palestine due to two main causes, the first one being the IDF attacks on the humanitarian aid centers and refugee camps, and the second being the forced starvation caused by the border blockades at Rafah and the West Bank by the israeli military. Al Jazeera is reporting that the IDF have settled barricades and roadblocks to prevent the convoys carrying the Humanitarian Aid to enter the most affected zones.

Men, women and children gather at distribution centers hoping to get some of the humanitarian aid.

Controversy has increased since various videos on social media have shown how, despite obeying orders from the IDF, which controls the distribution of humanitarian aid, Palestinian civilians have been killed by Israeli soldiers in long lines, as demonstrated by the following video uploaded by the Al Jazeera website, which was taken by civilians in waiting areas to receive humanitarian aid.

THE INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE HAS BEEN DIVIDED

In recent statements, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on Israel to resume access to humanitarian aid sent by various countries, opening its borders and monitoring the Palestinian population’s access to supplies necessary for their survival.

“Gaza is a killing field, and civilians live in a vicious cycle of death.”

This was what Antonio Guterres said when asked about the various controversies that have arisen over the Israeli Defense Forces’ cruel treatment of Palestinians, in what many call an attempted genocide that has been largely ignored for decades.

The situation has escalated to the ears of the international community, which is outraged by comments such as those of far-right Israeli politician Moshe Feiglin, who said, «Every child in Gaza is the enemy. We need to occupy Gaza and settle it, and not a single Gazan child will be left there. There is no other victory.»

This has fueled the belief that Israel has not only been trying to control the Gaza Strip but also fostering what many call a hell on earth for Palestinians.
