Planes para Semana Santa con muy poco presupuesto

WELCOME to the Language Section of the university´s  electronic newspaper.

This week Level 6 students of English have written ideas about what YOU can do during vacations without spending so much money.  Hope you like their tips.  And remember there may be some minor errors in their writing, but they have made a big effort to express themselves in their 2nd language.

Campeche, a Beautiful Destination

 Por: Mariana López Ramos

Campeche is a very beautiful colonial city full of culture and beauty everywhere you look, and it is located only 2.5 hours away from Merida. It is a great option if you are looking to enjoy a great vacation with your family and friends at a very low cost. Unique among Mexican cities today, Campeche’s Historic Center is still surrounded by the remains of a 2,560 meter-long defensive wall. To protect the city, its citizens and riches from frequent attacks by French, English, Dutch and Portuguese pirates, eight baluartes had been constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries. Seven baluartes and two gates remain standing today. A beautiful cathedral near the main square can also be found in the Historic Center. People gathering together playing traditional games and enjoying some quality time with their friends and family can be seen at the main square during the weekends. You can also visit magnificent archeological sites a few hours from the city like Edzna and Calakmul, which was the biggest pyramid of the Mayan culture in the entire Peninsula.  Finally, a beautiful sunset can be enjoyed while you relax and walk along the waterfront.
