Planes de bajo presupuesto para Semana Santa

WELCOME to the Language Section of the university´s  electronic newspaper.

This week Level 6 students of English have written ideas about what YOU can do during vacations without spending so much money.  Hope you like their tips.  And remember there may be some minor errors in their writing, but they have made a big effort to express themselves in their 2nd language.

Valladolid: A great place for vacations

Por: Jose Armando Laris Martínez

Here comes the vacation, and sometimes we don’t know what to do.  The problem is that not every day we have enough money for making a big trip. We live in Yucatan, which is a great state that has many places for visiting and you don’t have to spend a lot of money to go there. Yesterday I went to a magic place called Valladolid.

Valladolid is located two hours from Merida City. It was founded in 1543 by Francisco de Montejo. Valladolid has a very important role in the history of Mexico because  the first meeting for the Mexican Revolution took place here. In Valladolid we can find many attractions such as cenotes that are water wells that are located below the ground. Swimming in the cenotes has been considered a new experience by the local tourists.

The architecture in Valladolid is amazing. We can find very old houses that were built by Spanish people during the Colonial era. Their churches are beautiful, like the Sisal Church. It was built by the Franciscan Order in the year of 1643.

Finally we can find the Valladolid University, which has been named one of the most important universities of the Peninsula. Fourteen majors are given by the university.

If you have some time during the vacation I suggest to you to visit this wonderful city,  that has a great culture, history and people who are so friendly.
